Ali & Robin’s Winery Wedding: A Love Filled Celebration at Church and State, Victoria BC

Church & State Winery Wedding in Victoria BC Ali & Robin

When I first connected with Ali and Robin I knew we would get along great. Their warmth, calm energy and fun personalities made everything so easy.

When I got their inquiry I was so excited because this was my first Vancouver Island wedding and it didn’t disappoint! Nestled in the heart of Vancouver Island’s wine country, Church and State Winery provided an idyllic backdrop for Ali and Robin’s celebration. Known for its expansive windows, covered veranda, and warm ambiance, the venue offered a beautiful blend of indoor comfort and outdoor charm. This was especially important to Ali, who envisioned a decor scheme that brought the outdoors inside, creating an open, romantic, and vibrant space.

Ali got ready in her grandparents house where she would frequently visit when she was a kid so it was filled with so many memories. The charming home was filled with colourful walls and the most beautiful flower garden where they had their first look. Ali’s “something blue” was a bracelet that was her grandmas (she told me “she has a bracelet for every grandkid with our birthstones and engraved with our names that she gifts us on momentous occasions”), a ring from Robins gramma who has since passed, her nana and her mothers watch gifted to her by her father, “all my people on my arm” she mentioned.

The journey to their wedding wasn’t without its hurdles, Ali’s father’s diagnoses came as a shock to her and their family and was only given a few months to live meaning he would not make it to their wedding day. They instantly sprung into action creating a new plan to wed in their home (months before the actual wedding date) so her father could walk her down the aisle, watch them say their vows and become husband and wife.

When it came time for the ceremony Ali honoured her father and mentioned him in her speech, leaving everyone (including me behind the camera) sobbing.

Ali and Robin wanted their wedding to feel carefree, prioritizing moments of connection over the minutiae of planning. “Our goal for the day was for it to be fun and carefree,” Ali said. “Family and friends—the people who feel like family—matter most to us. We wanted everyone to enjoy themselves, drink great wine, eat delicious food, and celebrate together”.  The winery’s naturally bright and airy aesthetic complemented Ali’s dream of white florals, candlelight, and an intimate under-the-stars vibe. From heartfelt speeches to candid laughter the day was perfectly them.

It was such an honour to capture Ali & Robin’s big day.
